Hidden Agenda’s Scare Me
With my recent post about Christine O’Donnell who won the GOP senate primary in Delaware, it made me dive more into her background and it brings to light this type of candidates likely hidden agenda of running for public office.
O’Donnell was a spokesperson for Concerned Women for America, a Conservative Christian political action group which seeks to apply biblical principles to issues of public policy. [1]
O’Donnell has also been quoted as in saying this about masturbation, “The Bible says that lust in your heart is committing adultery. You can’t masturbate without lust!” [2]
With these types of controversial backgrounds on candidates running for public office, with lobbyist ties to push a Christian lifestyle, one could only use common sense for the reasons they are running for office. These are the types of candidates that will ignore the empirical evidence presented in front of them and allow their dogmatic beliefs make the decisions for them.
We live in a country with the freedom of religion along with the separation of church and state. When candidates like this make it clear they’ll push for laws that fit their ideologues and beliefs, it presents a problem. At this time, they are not representing the people, they are representing themselves.
Also one of her campaign and political positions is about fiscal responsibility where she was quoted, “Voting to spend money we don’t have has become the appealing option for too many politicians. The men and women of America know this is not sustainable.” [3]
Although that’s great she’s all about fiscal responsibility, she should learn something from her own statement since she’s in both personal and campaign debt. According to some sources, it took her 12 years to pay off her student loans, she’s had the IRS knocking on her door for unpaid income taxes, was audited and she’s still in debt from her 2008 campaign against Biden. [4] [5]
Perhaps another agenda for this candidate is if elected, her debt will easily get wiped cleaned with a nice Senator salary.
