I started my own team called Austin Atheists, so sign up and join if you want, join my team if you want and or start your own team.

World Community Grid is to create the world’s largest public computing grid to tackle projects that benefit humanity.

From their About page, this is a run down on how grid computing works:

Grid computing joins together many individual computers, creating a large system with massive computational power that far surpasses the power of a handful of supercomputers. Because the work is split into small pieces that can be processed simultaneously, research time is reduced from years to months. The technology is also more cost-effective, enabling better use of critical funds.

So join already and your computer can be chipping in to great causes.

A newly elected councillor in Toronto is turning heads after they found that he paid a pastor $300 dollars to bless his office, on inauguration day back on December 7th, 2010.

Michael Thompson paid Tai Adeboboye, pastor of Wilmar Heights Baptist Church for the office blessing. It’s one thing if you want to spend your own cash for your silly superstitious beliefs but to use tax payer money after you were backed by the newly elected mayor who campaigned against what they called the “gravy train” back in their fall campaign.

Of course where ministers or pastors are used in public ceremonies or events, they are paid public money that isn’t questioned but having your office blessed is taking it a step too far.

Shame on this councillor. If you want your office blessed, do it on your own dime. He was quoted defending his superstition by saying, “There is a lot to be done and I always need to have, besides my wife, another shoulder to lean on.” Really? You lean on your imaginary friends shoulder? Please demonstrate for us how you do such a thing.

He went on to say, “I always seek guidance and assistance, I don’t go to church everyday or anything, but I’m a religious guy and so I think that it is important to have God’s hand at my back or my right-hand side or my left, guiding me to make some of the decisions that we make.”

Some people just don’t give themselves enough credit. That thing that is guiding you is called your conscious, it’s not some magical bearded man in the sky telling you what to do, you thought of it on your own.

And for the record, if anyone out there wants their office blessed, I’ll do it cheaper than pastor Tai Adeboboye’s current rate. I’ll even clean the damn office if you want at such a rate, at least then I won’t feel guilty in taking money without actually doing anything.

Poor Stevie Johnson of the Buffalo Bills. He missed a game winning touchdown pass in OT. Can we blame the quarterback? No, the throw was perfect. Can we blame the other team? No, because the wide receiver dropped the ball. Can we blame the wide receiver then? We should but he blamed god for missing the catch and losing the game.

Stevie Johnson posted this on his twitter account following the game:

I PRAISE YOU 24/7!!!!!! AND THIS HOW YOU DO ME!!!!! YOU EXPECT ME TO LEARN FROM THIS??? HOW???!!! ILL NEVER FORGET THIS!! EVER!!! THX THO…

Here’s a tip for you Stevie, stop praising imaginary friends 24/7 and practice catching footballs so next time you don’t lose the game for your team.

Gideon Bible

There is nothing new about the Gideon’s organization handing out bibles to children near schools, as long as it’s on public property that isn’t on school grounds or property. They’re also the group that places bibles in hotel rooms. Their mission, to spread the word of god.

It might seem harmless and according to local, state and federal laws, they have every right to pass out such things, but after a news story broke locally where I live, I now have second thoughts about these groups passing out bibles to children before or after school. The more thought going into these people passing out bibles to school children without their parents around seems predatory. It’s almost down right creepy.

The Gideons message is to spread the word of god. They deny any interviews as it’s against their own policy. But seriously, anyone who has read the bible knows it’s filled with violence, sexuality, bestiality, rape, murder and just about everything else you don’t want your children exposed to. Honestly, if children are not allowed to view porn or adult related content until they are 18, the bible should be treated the same, for adults only.

For the record, the bible is the primary reason I don’t believe in god. So hand it out, perhaps under parental supervision and if you raise your kids to think with reason and common sense, they’ll likely use the bible against those preaching from this so-called good book.
